Back to school letter

Summer greetings!  I hope you all thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful northern Michigan summer and that you had a chance to enjoy some quality time with your family and friends.  Although it is always sad to see the summer come to an end, I am very excited about getting the year off to a great start and look forward to seeing all of the students back in our building again!

Enclosed you will find our back-to-school invite and some other “goodies.”  Please take the time to read through these items with your student as it contains important dates and information to know for the upcoming school year.  Some specifics:

·         Course schedules are enclosed as of today.  However, students are encouraged to check their schedules in PowerSchool periodically over the next couple of weeks as we are still in the process of balancing sections.  Mrs. Gaffney will be in the Counseling Office on Wednesday, August 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to discuss any legitimate schedule changes.

·         It is important for 7^th graders to attend orientation on Tuesday, August 26 at 5:00 p.m. to get acclimated to the staff and building.  Please let us know if you need help with transportation for your student.

·         It is important for both students and parents to attend:

Charlevoix Middle School/High School Open House

August 26, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

7^th & 8^th  grade parent meeting at 5:45 p.m.

9^th – 12^th grade parent meeting at 6:30 p.m.

·         Parent meetings will be held to cover new iPad information, the transition to standards-based grading and other important updates for the year.  

·         Parents must attend this meeting in order for their student to obtain an iPad on the first day of school.  

·         Parents will also be asked to complete necessary paperwork and remit the $20 annual iPad fee.  

·         In addition, we encourage you to meet all of your student’s teachers that evening and pick up a course syllabus that will contain information regarding course content, grading policies and necessary classroom supplies.  With the implementation of iPads, our school supply needs are changing, so we don’t want students/parents to purchase unnecessary items (ear buds and a stylus would be helpful).  School pictures will be taken during open house.

·         First day of school is Wednesday, September 3, doors open at 8:00 a.m.

I am certainly looking forward to another fantastic year of student growth and achievement and am proud of the Rayder Pride that is exhibited in our school and community.  Let’s Go Rayders!
